The Book of AllPower eBook Edgar Wallace Reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed this book--loved the high action, tension laden moments! The ending made me smile like crazy! The characters are well developed. I am keeping this in my Worth Reading Again file!
It is so good to read a book that relies on the story and uses classic and often eloquent English. I even had to look up the meaning of words new to me (and I have a very good vocabulary) using the dictionery.
This is a well-written story. It had an ending that I never, never would have anticipated. Still, it was a perfect ending..worth reading.
A typical thriller from Edgar Wallace about a Scottish industrialist in Russia's early revolutionary days. The industrialist must get himself out of Russia safely, while trying to help his friends caught up in the revolutionaries' fervor.
For a short book I thought it dragged and was repetitious. It had some twist and turns concerning the villain each time he was supposed to be maimed or dead he came back to fight on fought on.
A really top-notch literary thriller from Edgar Wallace. The novel is set in Russia before and during the revolution and to a lesser degree in London. The protagonist, Malcolm Hay, is a mild-mannered engineer on his way to manage some oil-fields in a small Russian village, until he meets and befriends Israel Kensky and the Grand Duchess Yaroslav and from then on his life is forever altered. It is through Hay's eyes that we see the steady erosion of the existing Russian aristocracy and the rise of the proletariat. The novel really belongs to Hay and his circle of confederates. If you are a fan of LeCarre then you should give this a try. Highly recommend it.
I am surprised that no one has mentioned the quality of the writing itself. Part of what I really appreciate about this book is how Mr. Wallace was able to construct such interesting sentences. I wish more contemporary writers would do this, and preferably without the excess profanity that seems to plague their stories.

I appreciated the story itself which held my attention. Though I can't say it was the most ingenious plot ever - it was interesting, and I enjoyed it. This was the first book I read by this author and I immediately started on "The Angel of Terror" when I was done with it.

My one complaint, and it is a small one, is that the end of the story felt a little abrupt to me. Perhaps this is common to the time in which it was written. I find the same to be true of books by Mary Roberts Rinehart, but I like those too.
